The football league season gets going this evening with Fulham playing hosts to division favourites Newcastle. Last season Fulham were amongst both the top scorers and the worst defences, they scored 66 but conceded 79. They have now also lost McCormack and Dembele who scored 36 times, over half of the season total. The players they have bought over the summer, including Sone Aluko up front do not instill any confidence that Fulham will mount any sort of promotion challenge this season.

Newcastle have lost a few high profile players and released some of the driftwood from the squad. Their signings all look to be solid and smart additions to the squad. In particular I feel this may be the perfect level for Dwight Gayle to get plenty of goals whilst Diame, Ritchie , Hanley and co will add plenty of quality and depth to the team. Keeping hold of Rafa was probably their best bit of business however and he may relish being able to work on a project rather than having the big wigs at Real Madrid barking out the orders.

I expect Newcastle to want to send a message to the rest of the league by starting with a convincing win at Craven Cottage and I believe they have the tools to do so. I’ll be on the following bets for the match:

Newcastle to win 2-0 or 2-1 @  4/1  (BetVic)

Diame anytime @ 3/1 (betfair)

Colback booking 3/1 (skybet)

Good luck!
